The Free Spirits

Move at their own pace and say what they think.

W・MCloseness: Own pace × Feelings: Shows them

The Free Spirits are the cats who put their own pace ahead of fitting in, yet let what they think and feel show openly. They throw themselves into what they love and don't force themselves into things that don't interest them — there's a breezy freedom about them. When the talk turns to something they love, their eyes light up, and that straightforward enthusiasm can draw others in.

They're perfectly fine doing things alone, but that doesn't mean they dislike people. Once you talk with them, many find they're straightforward, honest through and through, and surprisingly easy to talk to. Their attitude is "you do you, I'll do me," so they value other people's freedom just as much as their own, preferring relationships with no pushing and no tying down. An easygoing group with plenty of fresh air.

01What they share

Protects their own pace

Going along with the crowd for too long wears them out; moving to their own rhythm is where their energy comes from. A packed schedule isn't really their thing.

Says it straight

Likes and dislikes, fun and boring — it all shows in their face and words. With no hidden side, people find them easy to get along with.

Unstoppable once hooked

When something catches their interest, they lose track of time. A hobby others find odd can be endlessly fun to them.

A breezy kind of closeness

They prefer easy relationships where you meet when you feel like it, rather than being in each other's pockets — and they want to give others that same freedom.

02Strengths / Watch out for

Strengths

Self-starters

They don't wait for instructions; they find their own way forward. Many are good at discovering new ways of doing things, and their unexpected ideas sometimes surprise everyone.

Honest and to the point

They share their thoughts without beating around the bush, so discussions move along cleanly. No pretense means people trust them, and others find it easier to speak frankly too.

Going deep on what they love

They can stick with an interest for ages and one day realize they're an expert. That knowledge or skill sometimes ends up helping others.

Watch out for

A little too blunt

Their honesty can catch people off guard. Pausing for a second to think how it might land softens the way it comes across.

Not great at fitting in

Gatherings or rules they don't care about can leave them cold. Declining with a short reason helps avoid hurt feelings.

Slow to stay in touch

When absorbed, they tend to forget to reply. Telling the people who matter "I'm deep in something right now" saves them from worrying.

03With other people

The Free Spirits are most themselves in relationships where both sides respect each other's freedom. Two of them together is relaxed, but since both put their own plans first, they can end up rarely meeting — making plans now and then keeps the bond going. With the Cuddly Crew, it becomes a bright friendship where anything can be said. With the Quiet Companions, it helps to make an effort to pick up on feelings left unsaid. With the Solo Thinkers, the shared love of their own pace means neither has to tiptoe.

04At work and school

At work or school, they tend to do their best when they're trusted to run with things. Given the freedom to choose how, the ideas keep coming, and in fields they care about they can achieve more than most. On the other hand, being micromanaged or bound by rules nobody explains can make them lose interest. Checking the purpose before starting helps them move forward with conviction.
